Buying boneless hams and shoulders
At Jamón Puro Bellota, we only sell boneless products and high-quality hams at the best price. Our suppliers are the best wineries and ham drying facilities in the country. All of them have a designation of origin and worldwide prestige.
Our boneless hams maintain the same conditions and quality as a regular ham or shoulder. However, they have an advantage: they don't have the bone, making them much easier to slice and store at home. The boneless hams are the hind legs of the pig, the ham or shoulder, from which the bone has been removed for easy handling of the piece. Boneless hams should be stored the same way as regular hams.
Depending on the pigs' diet, we can find several types of boneless hams and shoulders. If we're talking about free-range Iberian pigs, it means that, according to regulations, the animal has spent the last stage of its life in the open field. When we refer to acorn-fed Iberian pigs, we're talking about pigs that have mainly fed on acorns. Finally, if we talk about grain-fed Iberians, we're referring to pigs fed with feed on farms. At Jamón Puro Bellota, you can find all of them boneless at the best prices.
Why buy boneless hams and shoulders?
Today, there are various formats for buying Iberian ham and shoulder: whole pieces, sliced hams and shoulders vacuum-packed, and boneless ham and shoulder pieces. All the options available on the market meet quality standards and aim to satisfy the needs of all types of customers. To fully enjoy and make the most of this unique delicacy, it's essential to know the different presentations or formats in which we can find ham and shoulders.
The most traditional format is the whole piece of ham or shoulder that we place on the ham holder for the enjoyment of the whole family. It's the classic option for families who consume ham almost daily. To make the most of the pieces, it's necessary to have some basic cutting knowledge and follow some conservation recommendations to enjoy all their properties to the fullest.
The second most popular option is to buy pre-sliced ham and vacuum-packed. It can be found sliced by machine or sliced by hand. This second option is the most used, especially for higher-quality Iberian hams.
Lastly, we have an option that is not as popular but equally advantageous for all those who adore ham. We're talking about buying boneless ham and shoulders. It consists of removing the entire bone from the piece and can be presented polished and clean of outer rinds.
Now, why should we opt for boneless Iberian hams? Here are our reasons!
Why boneless Iberians?
-
For convenience. It's much simpler and quicker to enjoy, especially for those who haven't quite mastered the art of cutting a bone-in ham.
-
For options. Boneless ham can be sliced in many ways: thin slices, by machine, or even diced for adding to meals. It's the most recommended format for enjoying different cuts in the same piece.
-
For price. Since it's a smaller piece, its price is also more economical. It's the best option for individuals who want to buy ham or shoulder for themselves.
How to store a boneless ham?
Although it may seem unimportant, nothing could be further from the truth. When we buy a boneless ham, we must know how to store it properly to ensure it lasts longer and is consumed properly. Furthermore, not storing your boneless ham correctly can cause the piece to spoil, affecting its flavor.
As the name suggests, boneless hams are those from which the bone has been removed before being vacuum-packed and put up for sale. The bone is what helps with prolonged preservation, so lacking it means we must use recommended preservation methods if we don't want to spoil our piece in a few days. If we store the unopened boneless ham in its vacuum-sealed packaging, it can last us up to three months, but we must keep it in a dry, dark pantry with a temperature between 17 and 21 degrees Celsius. Once we open it, we must put it in the fridge, inside an airtight container.
